CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - As the holiday rush continues through the new year, AAA is warning about the epidemic of impaired driving on our roads. According to data from the state, 11 People were killed last year in Massachusetts. Nearly 740 people were also injured in more than 3,300 crashes between December 23 and January 2. Five of those deaths occurred following crashes involving an impaired driver. Mark Schieldrop with AAA Northeast told 22News, "It's more than just alcohol. Cannabis is legal in Massachusetts but you can still be arrested for driving under the influence of cannabis or any other drug. Police are looking for that. If you feel different you are going to drive differently." AAA encourages everyone to make sure all driving is done by a sober driver. People who are hosting parties should provide non-alcoholic beverage options for guests and make sure every guest has a plan for a sober ride home. They also ask people to use rideshare services or public transportation instead of driving.
