CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Fire officials are reminding you to stay safe while heating your home this winter. Heating is the second leading cause of house fires in Massachusetts. The Department of Fire Services says you should keep anything that can burn 3 feet away from fireplaces, wood stoves, or space heaters. You should plug space heaters directly into outlets and don't use extension cords. Also, make sure to dispose of the wood stove and fireplace ashes in a metal can with a lid. Then put them outside, away from the house.
