NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Another year is coming to an end. As we say goodbye to 2024 and welcome 2025, KRQE News 13 is looking back on some of the local heartwarming of the year. Below is a list of KRQE's Good News stories from the past year. 1. Albuquerque teen honored by First Lady as ‘Girls Leading Change’ honoree An Albuquerque girl took her love of the South Valley to the international stage and was recognized for her efforts by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Cheyenne Anderson, 17, created a book titled "South Valley," which showcased the beauty and the poetry of the area. Read Full Story Here. 2. Otter population making comeback in New Mexico They used to be found in rivers across New Mexico, but for years they’ve been mostly absent. Now, the state believes restoration efforts are helping otters make a comeback in the state. Read Full Story Here. 3. Students in New Mexico develop innovative Parkinson’s treatment While there is no cure for Parkinson's disease, advancements in treatment have provided patients with some relief from the symptoms. Santa Fe woman organizes free skateboard giveaways for Navajo kids in New Mexico, Arizona A Santa Fe, New Mexico, woman has made it her mission to bring smiles to Navajo kids and support them by providing them with skateboards. Amy Denet Deal, a member of the Diné Tribe, gave away 5,000 skateboards in New Mexico and Arizona. Read Full Story Here. 5. Make-A-Wish brings ‘The Price is Right’ to life for Albuquerque girl An 8-year-old Albuquerque girl named Phoebe got her wish come true by getting to participate in a mock The Price is Right game and going to see a taping of the official game show. Make-A-Wish and Holmans USA, a New Mexico tech company, made it all possible for Phoebe, who has a long list of health issues. Read Full Story Here. 6. Albuquerque woman wins top title for her age group at Masters CrossFit Games After months of qualifying rounds and a worldwide competition, an Albuquerque woman is now officially the fittest woman in the world for her age group. Read Full Story Here. 7. Flight program teaches local youth about the ins-and-outs of aviation Several dozen kids got a chance to go up in the air and learn about what goes into flying a plane. The experience is part of EAA’s Young Eagles Flights program and is held at the Double Eagle Airport in west Albuquerque. Read Full Story Here. 8. Alto couple welcomes baby boy during wildfire evacuation As if fleeing the fires outside Ruidoso wasn't stressful enough, for one family, the experience came with a whole new challenge when Lina Sandy went into labor.
