Holiday travel in full swing at COS Airport
Dec 23, 2024
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — With Christmas just days away, millions of Americans are making their way home for the holidays using a plethora of travel methods, including embarking during one of the busiest travel season ever at the Colorado Springs Airport (COS).
On Monday, Dec. 23, the long-term parking lot at COS Airport was already full. However, things inside the terminal were running smoothly when FOX21 News stopped by to check out the travel rush.
An estimated 119 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home over the 12-day stretch before Christmas and after New Year's--3 million more travelers than 2023.
Some travelers FOX21 News spoke to at COS Airport on Monday chose to fly from the Springs instead of Denver International Airport this season.
"Well, my daughter lives here," said traveler Mary Pierce. "My other daughter lives here. And I don't like big airports. And this is an adorable airport and who wants to flying to Denver? Nobody."
If you're planning on driving this holiday season, some good news for your wallet. The national average price for gas right now is one of the lowest since pre-pandemic numbers.
