Reem’s location at SF Ferry Building to close
Dec 23, 2024
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Reem's, a popular Arab street food restaurant with two locations in San Francisco, announced Monday that it would be closing its SF Ferry Building location. Reem's, which opened at the Ferry Building in 2022, posted on Instagram that it would be shuttering that location at the end of January.
"We have some sad news. We are sad to announce that Friday January 31 will be our last day of service at the Ferry Building," the post read.
According to Reem's, the closure is the unexpected result of the Ferry Building choosing not to renew their lease in order to make way for construction.

"When the opportunity arose to build permanent space in the Ferry Building two years ago, we jumped at the chance, opening our corner kiosk and dreaming of one day building out a kitchen where we could bake bread on-site on a beautiful central saj (a domed griddle used to bake Middle Eastern flatbread) for everyone to see," the post read.
"However, last month, we learned property ownership had other sudden plans," it continued. "We were informed that our current space would be needed for reconstruction and that our lease would not be renewed. With no viable alternative space available, this chapter of our story has come to an end."
The post went on to impart a few words on the challenges of operating a small business in the current market.
"Every week we open our feed to see another beloved small business closing its doors due to unsustainable conditions," the post read. "The closure of our Ferry Building store will impact our Reem's team and operations as a whole. If we are to survive as a small business, we need our community to continue showing us love by dining and getting takeout from our restaurant, ordering our catering, buying our products at grocery stores, and attending our special events like Sunday Suppers."
Reem's opened to some fanfare, when it took over the kiosk formerly occupied by Cowgirl Creamery in November of 2022. The restaurant was launched by chef Reem Assil who operates another Reem's location in SF's Mission District.
