MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- An apartment complex caught on fire Sunday night in the University area.
Memphis Fire crews responded to an apartment fire at Bloom Gardens on Southern Avenue near Patterson Street just before 10 p.m. Five to six apartment units were left damaged.
The fire is under investigation, but residents say the blaze started in a second-floor corner apartment, though there had been no electricity in the apartment.

"I got up and I heard some screaming, but we're used to screaming over here," resident Tiffanie Boyer said. "Something told me to open the door. I opened the door and black smoke came in and I yelled, 'fire, fire.'"
"The windows over there blew out. We were out here from 9:30 to 4 in the morning," Boyer said. "Our whole apartment is black inside. Like, stuff's not salvageable."
