PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Pittsfield crews were called to a fully engulfed barn fire on South Street early Sunday morning.
According to the Pittsfield Fire Department, the fire was reported at 566 South Street at approximately 2:06 a.m. Sunday morning.
Upon arrival, Engine 1 and Car 2 crews discovered heavy fire throughout the two-story barn located behind the residence. A second alarm was activated, bringing all on-duty personnel and apparatus to the scene.

Additional crews deployed more large-flow handlines to combat the intense flames, which threatened three nearby homes located within 100 feet of the barn. Fortunately, none of the residential structures were affected.
Extreme cold conditions presented challenges for the crews, but the main body of the fire was brought under control within an hour. Hinsdale Fire Department was called to provide a firefighter rehabilitation bus to assist with the freezing temperatures.
Crews remained on scene until approximately 6 a.m. to extinguish remaining hot spots. No injuries were reported, and the owner’s residence sustained no damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials say it does not appear suspicious at this time.
