ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – It sure was a winter wonderland Saturday with all of the snow from the days prior. While some of us, me included, will only be running to beat the cold, these folks laced up their shoes, embraced the cold and gave it their all for the inaugural Winter Wonderland 5K run at Roc Holiday Village. Santa's elves race to the finish line Saturday during the Wonderland 5K. (WROC/Melanie Sosa.) "The run was great, it was very cold at first, I think everybody warmed up once we got into it but - a very fun finish with Santa right here and Christmas ornaments," said Kathy Tatelvaum, one of the runners. "I do a lot of the runs in the area, especially ones hosted by Rochester Running Company." Holiday shoppers head to Eastview Mall for last minute gifts Rochester Running Company organized the event in partnership with Wolfpack Multisport. Runners paid between $35-$40 depending on when they registered for the event. Officials said the turnout was really good for the event's debut! "We had about 350 people sign up," said Jonathan Griffiths, owner of Rochester Running Company. "It's so nice to start a new tradition for a lot of people that like to run around the holidays. We don't have something quite like this - like a nighttime feel, with the lights and everything in the city."
