(FOUNTAIN, Colo.) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported that a man with felony warrants for Armed Robbery and Assault on a Peace Officer was located in Fountain on Friday, Dec. 20, leading to an arrest with the assistance of K9s Milo and Kai. Around 11 a.m. on Friday, detectives with the CSPD and El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) Violent Offender Fugitive Taskforce (VOTF) received reports that the suspect was in the area of 7700 Fountain Mesa Road, near Mesa Ridge Parkway in Fountain. According to CSPD, detectives had reason to believe that he was armed with a handgun used in the robbery and might attempt to escape, so they requested the assistance of CSPD K9 Officers Ferguson and Comstock. VOTF detectives later saw the man walking in the area, and approached him, activating the police cruiser's red and blue lights and telling him to stop. CSPD said that detectives warned the suspect that police dogs were in the area, but he ignored their orders to stop and ran toward K9 Officer Comstock and K9 Milo's position. Comstock ordered him to stop, but when the suspect saw K9 Milo, he changed direction and ran toward Officer Ferguson's position. According to CSPD, Officer Ferguson issued two more warnings to stop or get bitten by a K9, but the suspect continued to run and tried to alter his path to avoid K9 Kai. The suspect ran toward a nearby business, at which point Officer Ferguson released K9 Kai. Kai chased the suspect and brought him to the ground, allowing detectives to take him into custody. The suspect was treated for minor injuries before being taken to the Criminal Justice Center, said CSPD.
