BOSTON (SHNS) - The Healey-Driscoll administration announced a partnership with a western Massachusetts nonprofit on Thursday, meant to make the Commonwealth the national hub for artificial intelligence. The governor announced at an AI leadership event that the Massachusetts Green High-Performance Computer Center in Holyoke is partnering with the state government to expand access to the high-performance, sustainable computing that is necessary for AI advancement and innovation. The Holyoke nonprofit spoke about the value of its partnership with the state. "Making productive and responsible use of AI will be a long and challenging journey.  We are delighted to be part of this bold step, said John Goodhue, the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Green High-Performance Computing Center. The state will also be partnering with UMass Amherst to recruit students to work full-time on experimental AI projects meant to do social good. The chancellor of the university, Javier Reyes, says this collaboration "will help students and faculty find ways in which the responsible use of AI can help the Commonwealth be more efficient and responsive to citizens' needs while providing both important experiential learning and potential public service career opportunities to our students." These students will be working at the new Massachusetts AI Hub in Boston, a space dedicated to AI research, training, and invention. The framework for the Massachusetts AI hub and partnership with the Holyoke nonprofit is based on recommendations from the state's AI Strategic Task Force.
