GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Students at Lombardi Middle School showcased their engineering prowess in the school's annual CO2 car races on Friday morning. The Lombardi Middle School Technology and Engineer Teaching Department held the races, as the Pathway to Engineering classes used a design process to make CO2 dragsters. ‘Fill the Cruiser’ event gathers law enforcement together to battle hunger in Brown County Students learned and used a program called Onshape to design the cars, thinking about the aerodynamics and weight to make the fastest car. Students cut the cars out of wooden blocks and then sanded them numerous times before painting the finished product. "This year, we bought a new track and it's the Clint Griffith Memorial Raceway at Lombardi International Speedway," teacher Brad Hotchkiss said. The track is named after the late Clint Griffith, who used to host the CO2 races as a tech education teacher at Lombardi Middle School. Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay continues Christmas Campaign with Community Lunch Hotchkiss still wears Griffith's hat for the event, which shows two checkered flags under the word Lombardi, keeping the tradition of the CO2 races alive. "I'm proud to wear it every year and keep the tradition alive," Hotchkiss said.
