BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — An Iberville Parish man has been charged with felony theft and filing false public records for allegedly defrauding Louisiana taxpayers of over $14,000.
Investigators said Glenn T. Smith, Jr. submitted a bad check to the Louisiana Department of Revenue. This falsely created a credit on his tax account. It resulted in an illegitimate refund of $14,421.
Once they discovered the bad check, LDR obtained an arrest warrant, and authorities booked Smith into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Dec. 19. LDR said Smith is the 77th person arrested in a joint effort with the state attorney general's office to combat tax fraud.
