A Janssen Christmas tradition: Chocolate Cherry Pie

BAKERFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Christmas is just five days away and as the holiday approaches, Maddie Janssen shares a dessert she whips up for her family every year.
Maddie walks you through the steps on how to make her signature dessert, Chocolate Cherry Pie, you can add to your holiday menu.
Ingredients:
Pie crust
Sweetened condensed milk
1/4 tsp. almond extract
Jar of Maraschino cherries
One cup of whipping cream
Box of instant vanilla pudding mix
Block of cream cheese
One cup water
One oz. of baking chocolate
Extra chocolate for decoration, if desired
Directions:
Pre-bake pie crust
Warm 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk with one oz. square of baking chocolate on the stove top, until smooth. Remove from heat and add 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract. Pour in prepared pie crust.
Whip one cup of whipping cream; Set aside eight whole cherries and chop the rest.
Soften one block of cream cheese; beat until fluffy; continue beating, adding in one cup of water. Add one box of instant vanilla pudding mix, and beat until smooth.
Continue beating, adding in remaining sweetened condensed milk, and 1/4 tsp almond extract. Fold in whipped cream. Stir in cherries and slivered almonds if you wish. Pour on top of chocolate. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Top with whole cherries, (and chocolate shavings if you want.)
