CHARLOTTE, NC — WCCB Charlotte has obtained shocking video showing the moment a a bullet goes through the window of a CMS bus. The sound of children innocently playing on the school bus is replaced in an instant with blood curdling screams when a bullet pierces the window. Ja’mya Dawkins is one of two Albermarle RoadMiddle School students hit by shards of glass after the bullet hit. “I just felt something wet on my eye, and I just felt it dripping down. I didn’t know what it was and then I, like, started crying,” said Dawkins. Dawkins and the other victim can be seen in the video huddling over as students on the bus went into a mass panic. She tells WCCB the two were praying. The video also appears to show the bus driver immediately radioing for help. She drove for more than two minutes before stopping. Eventually, the doors opened and students rushed out. Police are calling what happened Monday afternoon on W.T. Harris Blvd the result of a drug deal gone bad. Lamarius Anthony was charged the next day with carrying a concealed weapon. On Wednesday, Paris Lewis-Bynum was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a gun by a felon. WCCB has learned Lewis-Bynum’s charges don’t stop there. On Thursday, more felony charges were filed against Lewis-Bynum including larceny of a gun, felony conspiracy, and breaking into a car. According to court documents, that car he broke into was a State Highway patrolman and the gun he stole was a rifle that belonged to the patrolman. Prosecutors believe that rifle was the gun Lewis-Bynum used that hit the bus as well as a nearby church. We looked deeper into Lewis-Bynum’s past. Since turning 18, two years ago, he’s been arrested in Mecklenburg county nine times. Court documents show he was convicted two years ago for felony possession of gun by a felon. He was given 24 months supervised probation and recently completed it. The judge gave Lewis-Bynum no bond Thursday. His next court date is january 9th.
