Sampit community park to receive upgrades and renovations

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD)--Officials are working to enhance the well-being of residents— by redeveloping and renovating the Sampit Park.
“The purpose of this is for health and fitness, and part of our thing as people is that we face challenges with many medical situations such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.,” said Georgetown County Council member Everett Carolina.
In 2021, county officials were given a million dollars to rebuild, renovate, or restore certain areas as part of the county’s comprehensive plan… areas like Litchfield, Gravestation, and Sampit were places officials said needed the most work.
Crews restored the basketball court and multi-purpose field at the park. They added new playground equipment, fitness activities, and a walking trail, and construction on a new pavilion is underway. Residents told News 2 they’re thrilled about returning the park to life, especially as a primary spot for hosting community events.
“I feel very positive about the future comings of this park for the community because we utilize it very well for different occasions and holidays,” said Joe Cooper, a Sampit resident.
County Councilman Everett Carolina said there is something for everyone to do at Sampit Park, and he hopes to see everyone take advantage of the new and improved cardio amenities. “I hope the community embraces it and gets involved physically for health and fitness, passes it on, and brings the kids out. Again, this is a great thing. We must think of things that affect us Healthwise and want to overcome those things.”
Officials said they plan to discuss potential drainage and sewer infrastructure in the Sampit community in the coming months and will release information soon.
