Person surrenders live grenade to North Carolina sheriff's office causing lockdown

UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Union County Sheriff's Office says their administration building is under lockdown.
According to UCSO, a resident was trying to surrender a live hand grenade late Thursday night at the building which is near Wingate. An explosive ordnance team is headed there to safely deal with the explosive.
A perimeter has been set up, and authorities say there is no danger to the public. Traffic on US 74 is not impacted by the incident.
UCSO says an investigation is ongoing into the circumstances around the grenade surrender. More updates are expected, and the public will be updated once the building is back to normal.
