WAYNE COUNTY Ind. -- A man has been arrested after police say he supplied drugs that led to the fatal overdose of a man in Wayne County last year.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrested 30-year-old Kain Grose after serving a warrant at his residence in the city of Garrett on Dec. 16.
WCSO said an investigation into Grose was launched on May 31, 2023, following the death of Jamen Riggs in Cambridge City. Subsequent toxicology results determined that Riggs died as a result of a drug overdose.
The investigation led detectives to Grose, who they believe allegedly supplied the illegal narcotics that caused the fatal overdose.
The case was then turned over to the Wayne County Justice System, which granted a warrant calling for Grose's arrest.
Grose was arrested without further incident and transported to the Wayne County Sheriff's Detention Center where he was preliminary charged with two counts of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, which is a level 1 felony.
“The death of Jamen Riggs is a heartbreaking reminder of the devastating impact of illegal narcotics on our community," said Wayne County Sheriff Randy Retter. "This arrest reflects the tireless work and dedication of our investigators to bring those responsible for such tragedies to justice. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to combating drug-related crimes and ensuring the safety of our citizens.”
According to online court records, Grose is is set to appear in Wayne Circuit Court for an initial hearing on Dec. 20.
