UPDATE: THURSDAY 12/19/2024 3:03 p.m.
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — According to EPSO, the barricaded suspect incident has concluded.
EPSO held a press conference on the scene, in which a spokesperson with EPSO said the incident began when the Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force was trying to locate 46-year-old Christian Ornelas, who was wanted on domestic violence and assault warrants.
Officers tracked Ornelas to the Econo Lodge on Panamint Court, where Ornelas barricaded himself inside of a hotel room with a knife when officers contacted him. Attempts to negotiate with Ornelas were unsuccessful.
During the standoff, officers learned Ornelas had sustained multiple self-inflicted wounds, and tried to end the incident peacefully by using a chemical irritant in the hotel room. Ornelas surrendered shortly after. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for the self-inflicted wounds, and he will taken to the El Paso County Jail at a later time on the outstanding warrants.
