ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) -- Alexandria City High School moved all in-person classes to online learning for Thursday and Friday after students and staff were injured during several altercations. Several students showed up to the King Street campus of the High School on Thursday not knowing about classes being moved online out of an abundance of caution. "I didnt know notice that," said an Alexandria City High School senior. This comes after several altercations took place on Wednesday. In a letter to parents, Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt for Alexandria City Public Schools said students and staff were injured. Three additional people arrested in connection to deadly Manassas shooting To ensure safety for everyone the school was placed on a "hold status" for most of Wednesday despite the altercations involving a small number of students at the King Street campus. A senior said she was on her way to class when she saw a fight break out adding that "It was kind of scary but not too much." Superintendent Kay-Wyatt went on to express in the letter her disappointment in students, and that disruptive behaviors will face consequences. "I would also like to express how disheartening and concerning it was to learn about the unacceptable behaviors and actions taken by some of our students that resulted in injuries to staff and students. Our school community deserves better and counts on us to provide a safe place for teaching and learning." The letter went on to say additional measures will be implemented for when students return back to school after winter break in January. ...read more read less
