ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) - Following the nationwide baby formula shortage a few years ago, which left many families in crisis to feed their babies, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced over half-a-million dollars in new formula has been secured to distribute to New Yorkers in need.
AG James was at Foodlink's headquarters Wednesday to make the announcement. The regional food bank is the first to receive a shipment of formula, amounting to 3,300 cans worth, for distribution.
"No one should have to worry about feeding their child in an emergency," said James. "We've secured $675,000 worth of formula from Marine Park that we will deliver to New Yorkers over the next year. 3,300 cans of formula next to me will be the first delivery. The formula will go to families across the Rochester area for families most in need."

The shipments follow a recent price gouging settlement with companies Marine Park and Formula Depot, which were accused of skyrocketing the price of formula during the nationwide shortage.
"This year alone, we've seen a 47 percent increase in the number of households turning to food pantries. Our job in this is easy. It's to make sure formula gets into the hands of people in our community who need it the most and luckil, we have an incredible network of community agencies and leaders who will help to ensure that. So, we're grateful to do this work," said Julia Tedesco, Foodlink's CEO.
James says this resolution helps tackle market disruptions, working to ensure the most vulnerable families don't go hungry.
"Our work is not over yet. We know individuals, unfortunately, take advantage of the market and I want all of them to know the Office of the Attorney General takes this very seriously. Any business that engages in price gouging, you will soon have an investigator at your door," said James.
