Two days before the old Woodford County High School closes, Governor Beshear helped dedicate the new one. The school choir, band, several speakers and the governor ushered in the new, $77 million dollar Woodford County High School after school Wednesday afternoon. “What you see here is first class. It means that the students at Woodford County are going to have the best amenities, the newest programs, the greatest opportunity to reach for their dreams, no matter what they are.” Beshear’s mother Jane spent the first few years of her education career teaching at Woodford County High. He joked that she won’t allow him to say how many decades ago that was. He also spoke of school safety in the wake of another deadly school shooting, this one in Wisconsin Tuesday. “This school also has state of the art safety features to protect our students, to protect our teachers in case of an emergency. Listen, nobody should go to school at any day feeling unsafe.” Beshear thanked all the school resource officers in Kentucky.
