NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Bonnet Carre Spillway has reopened after dense fog led to hours-long closures. On Wednesday, Dec. 18 around 3:15 a.m., Department of Transportation and Development officials began diverting traffic to Interstate 310 South due to the closure. Dense fog likely again tonight Drivers are also encouraged to take an alternate route for their morning commute as congestion continues to back up. Around 6:30 a.m., DOTD reopened lanes but closed soon after. At 7:58 a.m., DOTD officials reported a reopening at mile marker 220 with minimal congestion. Causeway Police also enforced a rolling convoy for the southbound bridge also due to the fog. Speed limits will be determined by visibility. This is a result of a multi-car pileup on the Causeway that left dozens injured.
