Latest disruption in Burleigh County auditor's office
Dec 18, 2024
BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — Another person who worked for Burleigh County's Auditor's Office has just resigned.
On Wednesday afternoon, KX News was told by a county commissioner that deputy auditor and treasurer Brandi Kaya is no longer employed. She worked under Burleigh County auditor and treasurer Mark Splonskowski, who has recently been criticized and investigated for his conduct since he took office last year. This week, county commissioners discussed recent investment decisions made by Splonskowski that finance experts say should have earned the county thousands more dollars in interest.
"In the first part of my term, there was a lot to learn, a lot going on," Splonskowski told commissioners during a presentation. "And there was a lot of things going on with Bank of North Dakota that I was not aware of. Like I said, I'm learning my job. I haven't been here yet for two years."
"Work together," declares Burleigh County resident Curtis Jundy. "Instead of 'I'm an elected official, you're an elected official, and we're just going to keep battling each other because you can't touch me.' It's BS. That's doing us a disservice."

Burleigh County state's attorney Julie Lawyer's office recently investigated Splonskowski, and found that he had sent out dozens of text messages telling co-workers not to vote for current county commission chairman Brian Bitner.
Splonskowski can only be removed from office if he resigns, or if county voters recall him.In October, Lisa Hart, who was the elections coordinator for Burleigh County, also resigned.
KX News called Splonskowski's office on Wednesday for comment. He did not immediately respond.
