WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Police are searching for a suspect involved in a shooting near Dunbar High School that injured a 17-year-old girl. Neighbors said they're frustrated with the senseless gun violence that is happening in the District. On Tuesday, investigators released surveillance video of a group of people running down an alley. The video showed a man, who is the alleged suspect, holding a gun. Soon after, you see a 17-year-old girl walking down the alley screaming for help as someone helps her. Moments go by and the alleged suspect runs back to assist the girl. The teen was then dropped off at her school, Dunbar High School, just fa few feet away from where the incident took place. The school was placed on lockdown which delayed dismissal as police were called. Man dies of injuries nearly two months after being hit by car in Temple Hills The victim was sent to the hospital and is expected to be okay. Police are also searching for a white Hyundai Elantra with Pennsylvania tags, which they believe is involved in the shooting. "It's awful, kids should be safe going to and from school. That's at least one place where they should be safe," said neighbor Kevin Walker. Walker has lived in the area for nearly 5 years, he said the senseless gun violence is not surprising but tiring. "I feel like this keeps happening and city officials come out and they make statements and they talk about how sad it is and then nothing changes. I mean, the city likes to focus on, you know, improved crime statistics, but this is the reality that people are living in this neighborhood and something needs to happen... No one should have to live like this, we need to do something." he said. In a letter, the Dunbar High School principal said they are “committed to the safety and well-being of its students.” This is an ongoing investigation and police are asking anyone with information to come forward. “Somebody out there knows the people who committed this crime. They could be a relative, the significant other, someone you know, if you know that person, we are asking you, to please contact the metropolitan police department," said Sylvan Altieri, the Assistant Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department.
