RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - According to Rio Rancho Police, a suspect is in custody after shooting several hundred rounds of ammunition Wednesday morning. Rio Rancho Police say around 11 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the area of Sabana Grande Ave. and NM 528 (Pat D'Arco Highway) regarding gunshots being fired. Police say when they arrived at the scene they heard "a significant amount of gunfire from different weapons being shot, perceivably in their direction." Eventually, police were able to identify that the gunfire was coming from the 4100 block of Las Casas Ct. According to a news release, New Mexico State Police air support & APD air support assisted officers in locating a suspect who then started shooting at the APD helicopter. Police also say several hundred rounds of ammunition were discharged by the suspect along NM 528 and his residence. After an hours-long SWAT standoff, police say Eric Brusstar of Rio Rancho was taken into custody. He is expected to face several charges, however that information has not been released. At this time no injuries have been reported. Southbound NM 528 has been reopened, however, northbound NM 528 will be closed until equipment and evidence can be removed. Sabana Grande is currently closed from NM 528 to Rincon de Romos Dr.
