Reco Dickson *** MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- An ambulance that was stolen from a hospital hit a Memphis Police squad car early Wednesday morning after a chase in the South Memphis area. Officers say they were called to Methodist South Hospital on 1300 Wesley Drive regarding a stolen Parrord Medical Ambulance truck just before 4:50 a.m. The EMT driver told police that she was at the hospital helping a patient into a wheelchair from off the stretcher. But when she went back outside, she saw that the ambulance truck was missing from the entrance dock. The ambulance truck was found through the GPS tracker inside the vehicle on Elvis Presley Boulevard and Brooks Road. Officers say they attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect driving the ambulance refused. A vehicle pursuit was then initiated. During that time, officers say they used stop sticks at Third Street and Lucy Avenue and successfully popped tires on the ambulance. WREG crews on the scene captured video footage of the ambulance crashing into an MPD squad car as it came to a stop on the corner of Crump Boulevard and Third Street. MPD officers say the suspect began resisting arrest. After a brief struggle, he was placed into custody and taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition. No officers were reported injured. After further investigation, police say the suspect license was suspended due to failure to pay a citation for no driver's license back in 2013. This is still an ongoing investigation.
