ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Rochester Police have made an arrest in relation to a fatal hit and run on Driving Park Bridge from April. On April 11, 63-year-old Billy Smith was crossing the street around 7 a.m. at the corner of St. Paul Street and Driving Park Bridge when he was struck and killed by a car traveling over the bridge. Police said witnesses reported seeing the vehicle driving recklessly before running over Smith and leaving the scene. RPD: Man killed by hit and run driver on Driving Park bridge After investigation, Shashonnie Williams, 26, was arrested and charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence for allegedly attempting to conceal evidence from the crash. According to police, Williams was out of custody pending sentencing for a DWI-Leandra's Law conviction at the time of the crash. RPD said Williams has been in custody since October on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court for the sentencing. His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2025.
