(Jeff Motz/KFOR Sports)LINCOLN–(KFOR Dec. 17)–What had like a late February, early March feel turned out to be one of the biggest boys basketball games in the early part of the regular season on Tuesday night. In the end, an 8-0 start in the second overtime helped Lincoln North Star jump in front and hold on for an 84-83 victory over Lincoln Northeast at the Ed Johnson Gym in a game heard on KFOR. It was a scoring dual between North Star’s Jordan Castor and Northeast’s Lazerek Houston, both finishing with 36 points apiece.  Houston, who started his high school career at Northeast, had spent the previous two seasons at North Star. Northeast led 61-51 after three quarters, after rallying back from a 40-38 halftime deficit.  In the final quarter, North Star rallied over the final four minutes of regulation to tie the game at 66 and force the first overtime.  Goay Gatwech nailed a three-pointer to give the Gators a 73-71 lead and Houston raced to the other end and scored a layup to tie the game with five seconds left. Castor scored the first basket in double-overtime and Gatwech, along with Will Schaefer hit back-to-back three pointers that gave North Star an 81-73 lead.  Gatwech hit a free throw to maintain an 84-80 and Mo Abdalla hit a three-pointer for Northeast with six seconds left and no timeouts remaining. Three-pointers were falling for both teams all game long.  Northeast made 14 from behind the arc (six alone in the first quarter to give the Rockets a 26-16 lead).  North Star connected on 12 threes. Will Schaefer added 13 points in the North Star victory, improving their record to 2-1.  Junior guard Easton Switzer added 18 points for Northeast, who fell to 3-1, while Abdalla added 15 for the Rockets.
