Steuben County adopts RapidSOS to provide more 911 call information
Dec 18, 2024
ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) Residents of Steuben County can now opt in to a service that will provide 911 operators more information should they need to call in the event of a medical emergency.
According to a news release announcing the partnership, 911 operators are forced to rely on the limited information a phone call can provide, often resulting in dispatching delays and first responders arriving on scene under-informed.
RapidSOS created the world’s first emergency response data platform that securely links life-saving data from over 350M connected devices to over 5,000 Emergency Communication Centers nationwide.
People can create their free Emergency Health Profile by visiting emergencyprofile.org and entering pertinent medical and profile information, such as:
Name, DOB, and address
Pre-existing conditions
Allergies
Medical Notes (ex. Mental health issues, developmental disabilities, etc.)
COVID-19 symptoms
Emergency contacts
Once you've signed up, and there's an emergency, you can dial 911 and your Emergency Health Profile information is automatically sent to 911 through RapidSOS.
To ensure data privacy, information is associated with an individual’s phone number and is only made available to first responders when a 911 call is placed from the associated phone number.
