Bismarck testing bulk garbage pickup for residential areas
Dec 18, 2024
BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Starting January 2025, Bismarck Public Works will test a program to collect bulk residential items – things that typically can't fit into the 96-gallon garbage cans.
According to information from the city, the program is the result of changes to how non-garbage-can trash, or extras, is collected. Bismarck is replacing its "multipack" trucks, which are no longer manufactured. The replacement trucks don't easily allow for collecting extras, so Bismarck Public Works came up with the test program.
Bismarck residents wishing to have bulk items collected must contact Public Works to arrange for the curbside pickup of those items. Each bulk pickup call will incur a $20 fee for up to five items collected that day, plus the landfill disposal cost for each item.
Bulk curbside pickup won't be available in April since the city holds a separate Spring Cleanup Week that month.
The deadlines to request bulk item pickup are:
January 27, 2025
February 24, 2025
March 17, 2025
May 19, 2025
June 16, 2025
July 14, 2025
The bulk item pickup dates are:
January 29, 2025
February 26, 2025
March 19, 2025
May 21, 2025
June 18, 2025
July 16, 2025
On pickup days, bulk items must be placed on the curb by 6:00 a.m. Keep in mind that pickup days could be affected by winter weather, resulting in date changes.
A complete list of items that will be accepted, and more information about the pilot program is available online at https://bismarcknd.gov/2434/Bulk-Residential-Item-Collection.
