Mentor Public Library receives funding to host digital literacy workshops
Dec 18, 2024
Mentor Public Library announced it has received $5,000 from the Public Library Association in collaboration with AT&T to host digital literacy workshops that will take place in spring 2025.
They will be free and cover topics including internet use, cybersecurity, video conferencing and using mobile devices, according to a news release.
The workshops are part of the PLA’s Digital Literacy Workshop Incentive to improve basic digital skills in families and communities. The PLA has selected more than 130 public libraries across 42 states — including Mentor Public Library — to host these workshops.
They are funded by a $2.7 million contribution from AT&T, the release stated.
The workshops use DigitalLearn training materials, and are created in collaboration with AT&T and are freely available to anyone through Digitallearn.org. The site offers short videos that provide introductions to PCs, Macs, smartphones, email, searching the internet, Facebook, and more. They also provide advice on avoiding online scams and protecting online passwords.
