According to a Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson, the aircraft, an Airbus A321neo, was diverted less than two hours later due to a "disruptive passenger." The Airbus was carrying 184 passengers and six crew members at the time.
The flight landed at SFO around 11:30 a.m., according to the FAA. The FAA is investigating the flight, it said.
The flight was diverted to San Francisco International Airport. The plane landed without incident and the passenger was removed, airline officials said. The flight resumed to Maui Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
According to the FAA, this is just one of more than 1,900 unruly passenger incidents airlines have reported in 2024.
