BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WLNE) — Connecticut State Police said a Rhode Island man was arraigned Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and caused a risk of injury to an infant.
Ariel Dejesus Valdez, 28, of Providence, is charged with risk of injury to a child, two counts of reckless endangerment 2nd degree, strangulation or suffocation in the 2nd degree, criminal mischief 2nd degree, larceny 3rd degree, and breach of peace 2nd degree.
According to police, on Dec. 7, Valdez allegedly strangled his girlfriend at the interstate-95 North Fairfield Service Plaza.
Valdez then punched the back window of his car, which shattered and caused glass to fall onto the couple’s one-month-old infant.
The defendant then fled the scene, and first responders provided care to the infant who had fragments of glass around the neck area, according to police.
On Dec. 16, Valdez was arrested on outstanding warrants by Rhode Island State Police and brought to Connecticut.
Valdez is held on $100,000 bail.
