(CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo.) — The mine in Cripple Creek where a tour guide died in October has undergone an inspection to determine compliance with state regulations.
46-year-old Patrick Weier, an employee of the mine, was killed during an elevator malfunction while giving a tour on the morning of Oct. 10. 11 people were rescued from the elevator after it became stuck about halfway down, and an additional 12 people were trapped in the mine until that evening, when they were brought up in the repaired elevator four at a time.

According to a spokesperson with the Department of Natural Resources, the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted a site inspection on Dec. 9 to evaluate the Mollie Kathleen Mine facility for compliance with the regulations of the Mine Safety Training Program for Tourist Mines (MSTP).
An inspection report will be made, however, the spokesperson said there is no timeline for completion. The MSTP is coordinating with the Teller County Sheriff's Office U.S. Occupational and Safety Health Administration (OSHA) in the ongoing investigation.
The mine has been closed since October.
