Greene County Sheriff’s Office gives tips on protecting your packages from porch pirates
Dec 17, 2024
GREENE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Greene County Sheriff's Office is providing tips to residents to help folks protect their packages from porch pirates during the holiday season.
In 2022, the U.S. Postal Service processed more than 11.7 billion pieces of mail and packages during the holiday season. With that in mind, here's what you can do to keep your gifts safe.
The following are tips provided by the sheriff's office:
Place a security camera in a visible location near your front door to deter thieves and provide evidence if a theft occurs.
Request a signature from the delivery driver to ensure your package isn't left unattended.
Have packages delivered to a secure locker, post office box, or authorized pickup location.
Schedule deliveries for when you're home and avoid leaving packages unattended for long periods.
Keep track of your package using package tracking to know when it's expected to arrive.
Install motion sensor lights to make your property less appealing at night and to help if there's a late-night delivery.
Ship to a physical store instead of your home.
Protect your package with insurance.
