Beaufort man arrested for August murder of a woman

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) has announced an arrest made in connection to the murder of a woman in August.

BCSO reported on Tuesday that Anthony Alfrado Brown, 41, of Saint Helena Island had been served with warrants for his arrest on the charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Brown has been in custody at the Beaufort County Detention Center since August 23, on charges of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Brown's initial arrest was in connection to an armed robbery case. Two days prior to his arrest, shortly before 2 a.m. on August 21, the BCSO Communications Center received the report of an armed robbery at the Circle K on Lady’s Island. Deputies learned the suspect was armed with a gun, demanded cash and took off with money and merchandise. An investigation quickly identified Brown as the suspect and warrants for his arrest were obtained.
Approximately seven hours later on that same day, the Communications Center received a report of a woman lying on the side of Langford Road on Saint Helena Island. Deputies discovered Stephanie Campbell, 33, dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Anthony Brown was identified per investigation as one of the individuals who had last seen Campbell alive.
As investigators worked the case, arrest warrants for Brown were obtained in connection to her murder.
