Police responded to gunfire report 3 hours before 17yearold found dead in Henrico

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Henrico County Police Division is continuing to investigate leads in the homicide of the 17-year-old boy who was fatally shot near an elementary school.
On the morning of Monday, Dec. 16, officers responded to the 3300 block of Reynolds Road for a report of a person shot near Macon Ratcliffe Elementary School.
Henrico County Department of Emergency Communications (DEC) received a 911 call for a report of gunfire at 3:25 a.m.
At 6:07 a.m., DEC received a 911 call reporting that someone was shot. Once on the scene, officers collected evidence and searched the area and weren’t alerted of any injuries.
The teen male was in found a fenced-in backyard in the 3300 block of Reynolds Road. Officers said that the teen had obvious signs of trauma and was declared dead at the scene.
Henrico Police will not release the identity of the victim due to his age.
“To provide some further clarity, the victim was located a couple of houses down from where officers responded for the single 911 shooting call just after 3 a.m.,” a spokesperson with Henrico Police said in a release on Tuesday morning. “There were no calls for active gunfire in the area at approximately 6 a.m.”
