BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Berkeley County council members approved Monday resurfacing work for more than 200 city, county, and state roads. “Roads and infrastructure remain a top priority for County leadership and staff. That’s because it’s one of the public’s chief concerns. Enhanced roadways improve traffic and quality of life in our communities,” said Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb. The country awarded a contract for more than $12 million to Banks Construction for resurfacing and base work for 97 roads. That money will come from the One Cent Sales Tax program which was approved by voters in November 2022. Sanders Brothers Construction was awarded a contract for more than $7 million to resurface 32 roads through Berkeley County Transportation Committee funds, and the county awarded a contract to Banks Construction for $5 million to resurface 98 roads and $2 million to complete five dirt-to-pave roads through American Rescue Plan Act funds. “Council and I will continue to prioritize these projects across our entire county as we move into the New Year,” added Cribb. “We understand there is much to do, and we will continue to commit all resources available to address this critical need.” A timeline for the resurfacing projects was not provided.
