SHOALS, Ind. — Law enforcement arrested a Shoals couple that allowed a 2-month-old to go severely malnourished. According to a press release, Indiana State Police began looking into the activity of Pearl Crowder and Isiah Beavers on Oct. 31. Police initiated the investigation after the Indiana Department of Child Services gave them information that indicated a child had been neglected and lost an extreme amount of weight. During their investigation, state police learned the allegedly neglected 2-month-old was rushed to IU Health Bedford Hospital due to malnutrition. The child needed to be transferred from IU Health Bedford to Riley Children's Hospital to receive additional treatment. Per ISP, the child was even rendered unconscious at times because of malnutrition. The Martin County Prosecutor's Office reviewed the investigation ISP conducted and subsequently issued an arrest warrant for Crowder and Beavers on Dec. 13. Beavers and Crowder were detained by Martin County Sheriff's Deputies on Dec. 16 without incident. Booking photo of Isiah Beavers courtesy of Indiana State Police.
