Fatal hitandrun on Pontchartrain Expressway under investigation

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run near the Pontchartrain Expressway.
Around 1 a.m., officers said they were called to the scene of a crash involving a pedestrian near the elevated section of United States Highway 90 Eastbound at the O'Keefe exit.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly found the unresponsive victim. EMS pronounced the victim dead on the scene.
NOPD officers said the vehicle that struck the victim reportedly fled the scene.
The crash left Highway 90 east closed for several hours as officers diverted traffic off the road via the O'Keef exit.
No further details are available at this time. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will release the victim's identity after an autopsy is and the family is notified.
