Both drivers were taken to ECU Health with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. State Highway Patrol said the propane truck sideswiped the pickup truck and both vehicles lost control.
61-year-old Terry Lancaster, from Washington, was the driver of the propane tanker. He was charged with a DWI, commercial DWI, reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.
They also said the pickup truck went off the road to the right and hit a tree and the propane truck overturned and slid on its side out of the road.
They said Haz-Mat units also responded to evaluate the propane tanker and they determined it was safe to be removed from the crash scene.
