(DC News Now) – The Montgomery County District Court on Monday, has deemed 37-year-old Mackenzie Colgan incompetent to stand trial after she allegedly drowned her daughter earlier this month. Colgan was charged with first-degree murder after she allegedly drowned her 3-month-old daughter in a bathtub on Dec. 8. The ruling comes after Colgan underwent a mental health evaluation in the days following her first court appearance on Monday, Dec. 9. What Christmas tree sales are like in the DMV Officials with the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) said Colgan admitted she killed her daughter after she told her family that she was taking the girl to give her a bath. Officers said they and medics received a report that a child drowned at a home on Summit Avenue in Chevy Chase. When they arrived, they found the three-month-old unconscious. She died at the hospital. Police said Colgan acknowledged that she drowned the baby. According to court documents, she told investigators she woke up on the morning of Dec. 8 with a plan to “end everything.” She said she intended to kill herself, her two children and her husband. Colgan will undergo treatment at a mental health facility. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 27, 2025.
