WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President-elect Donald Trump said he has a “warm spot in his heart” for TikTok when asked about the ban set to take effect next month. During remarks at Mar-a-Lago on Monday, President-elect Trump appeared interested in saving the popular social media app. “We’ll take a look at TikTok,” he said. “You know, I have a warm spot in my heart for TikTok.” Trump claimed he won the youth vote by 34 points and that TikTok may have been part of the reason. Trump’s comments on TikTok come following a ruling earlier this month in which a federal appeals court left in place a law requiring China-based parent company ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a ban in the United States. If TikTok is not sold, then the app will be forced to shut down in the U.S. as soon as Jan.19, just one day before Trump’s inauguration. Trump has previously promised to “save TikTok,” though he has not provided any further details on how he would do so.   President Joe Biden signed the statute into the law earlier this year after concerns TikTok could pose a national security risk. However, TikTok has denied those claims. Monday was the first time Trump has addressed reporters since winning the election last month. He spoke for over an hour and covered a wide range of topics, including a deal with SoftBank. Trump announced that the Japanese company plans to invest $100 billion in U.S. projects during his time in office.  Trump said the deal would create “100,000 American jobs at a minimum.” The Associated Press contributed to this report.
