A 15-year-old female student killed two people and injured at least six others at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, police said.On Monday night, police identified the shooter as Natalie Rupnow, who went by the name Samantha.Police initially said the assailant killed four people, but revised the number back to two Monday afternoon.The victims who died include a teacher and a teenage student, according to Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was pronounced dead while on the way to the hospital.Police said they would identify the deceased at a briefing on Tuesday.Six other students and a teacher were injured and taken to area hospitals. Police said evidence suggested the shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but made clear that the official cause of death will be released by county medical examiner. She was pronounced deceased while being moved to the hospital.No officers fired shots during the response to the shooting, Barnes said. Police said a 2nd-grade student made the initial call to 911 at the time of the shooting.Two students remain in the hospital in critical condition, according to police. A teacher and three other students had non life-threatening injuries. Two of them have been released from the hospital as of Monday afternoon.All students who had sheltered during the shooting have been reunited with their families, police said Monday evening.Police are still working to establish a motive. They are searching the suspect's home and conducting interviews with family members. Chief Barnes said they were fully cooperating with the investigation.Police say a document related to the shooting had surfaced on social media. Officials were still working to verify its authenticity on Monday night.Chief Barnes encouraged the public to carefully check the sources of information they share about the incident, asking them to rely on trusted journalists and police and other officials to minimize the spread of misinformation.President Joe Biden and Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said they are closely monitoring the situation. "We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond," Evers said. Abundant Life Christian School was founded in 1978, according to its website. It offers classes for children in kindergarten through 12th grade.
