HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 17-year-old boy was found dead after he was shot in a backyard near an elementary school in Henrico County Monday morning. At 6:07 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, officers with the Henrico County Police Division were dispatched to the 3300 block of Reynolds Road near Harold Macon Ratcliffe Elementary School for the report of a person shot. When they arrived, they found a 17-year-old boy in a backyard with significant trauma who was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials continue to investigate the boy's death as a homicide. Police are working with Henrico County Public Schools, as the boy was found near the elementary school. According to the school system, the school day began as a "lock and teach" to not interfere with the police investigation, which was then lifted. Roads in the area were closed in the morning to allow for the investigation and have since opened. Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to contact Det. J. Ensor at 804-501-5794.
