1 Injured In Road Rage Shooting

A 45-year-old New Havener was injured in a road rage shooting at a busy downtown intersection — at the start of a busy weekend for city police, who also made an arrest in a Dixwell carjacking and responded to a bomb threat hoax at a church on Hamilton Street.The shooting took place Friday near Whitney Avenue and Trumbull Street, according to a press release posted to the New Haven Police Department’s (NHPD) X account on Saturday afternoon.That press release states that, at around 5:30 p.m. Friday, city police officers were dispatched to the emergency department of Yale New Haven Hospital’s York Street campus for a gunshot victim, a 45-year-old man from New Haven, who had arrived by private vehicle.“The victim stated he was involved in a road rage incident when the driver of the second vehicle shot him in the area of Whitney Avenue and Trumbull Street,” the press release states. “His injuries were not life-threatening. Detectives responded to interview the victim and canvass the area for evidence.”On Sunday afternoon, NHPD spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart told the Independent that police had not yet made any arrests, “but detectives have some video surveillance and are investigating.” Thankfully, he added, no one else was injured during this shooting.Church Receives Bomb Threat HoaxSeparately, on Saturday at 1:09 p.m., a post to NHPD’s X account stated that police officers had responded to the area of Hamilton Street between Ives Place and Chapel Street for a bomb threat. “Nothing was located and it appears to be a hoax.”Bruckhart told the Independent that the bomb threat was received by Church on the Rock. “Along with Church security, the hazardous devices unit conducted sweeps of the area but did not locate anything suspicious,” he said. “The origin of the threat is still under investigation.”Bruckhart added that he was not aware of any other bomb threats in the city that day, but he had seen a few other municipalities had reported them as well.41-Year-Old Arrested For CarjackingFinally, in a Sunday afternoon posting to X, police announced they had made an arrest in a Saturday night carjacking.According to the police press release, at around 8:31 p.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to the area of Orchard Street and Henry Street in Dixwell for a robbery/carjacking. “The victim called and reported being parked in that area when three males approached the vehicle. All three males had firearms in their possession, pointed them at the victim and told them to get out. The three males got in and fled on Orchard Street toward Dixwell Avenue.”The vehicle was found a short time later in Fair Haven. “The driver attempted to flee, but officers successfully deployed stop sticks and after a pursuit the vehicle was stopped in the area of Sherman Avenue and Elizabeth Street.”The driver, a 41-year-old man from New Haven, was arrested and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, failure to obey officer signal, engaging police in pursuit, and reckless driving.No one was injured in the incident.
