PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. (WSAV) - With less than 10 days from Christmas, workers at two Amazon warehouses in Georgia are threatening to strike, joining thousands of workers from two New York warehouses. NBC is reporting both those warehouses are in the Atlanta metro area and are part of the Teamsters union which is fighting for better working conditions and pay. Sunday was the deadline the Teamsters union set for Amazon to start negotiations. Without a deal, the workers could strike next week. Amazon delivery drivers we spoke with say they have not heard anything about strikes happening at local distribution facilities. One, who chose to remain anonymous, said he is fine with current working conditions at the Port Wentworth location where he is employed. "It's been fine for me. I like the pace. I like going fast. It's been smooth for me," said the driver. A spokesperson for Amazon told News 3 in a statement the Teamsters have continued to "mislead the public" and "claim to represent thousands of Amazon employees and drivers... They don't. The full statement is below. News 3 also asked Amazon if a potential strike on the regional and national level could slow deliveries in the area, and we have been told that none of the strikes in the past have affected local operations. Statement from Amazon: “For more than a year now, the Teamsters have continued to intentionally mislead the public – claiming that they represent ‘thousands of Amazon employees and drivers’. They don’t, and this is another attempt to push a false narrative about the independent small businesses who deliver on our behalf. The truth is that the Teamsters have actively threatened, intimidated, and attempted to coerce Amazon employees and third-party drivers to join them, which is illegal and is the subject of multiple pending unfair labor practice charges." -Eileen Hards, Amazon Spokesperson
