OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) - The public was invited to celebrate the opening of Menominee Park Zoo`s new bear and fox exhibit on Sunday. The event was held from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony taking place at 12:30 p.m. followed by a wide variety of holiday festivities, from enjoying sweet Christmas treats to saying hello to Santa Claus himself. Fox Cities Festival of Lights brings community festive spirit Admission was free for attendees to meet the trio of feisty foxes and their fun-loving neighbor, Mr. Reeves. "Mr. Reeves, our black bear, he's just about a year old, is what we can tell from that end," said Chad Dallman, Assistant Parks Director for the City of Oshkosh. "Black bears live about 30 years in captivity so that's going to be a heck of an education and conservation piece for us to help display here for many years to come." Mr. Reeves was flown from The Alaska Zoo in Anchorage, Alaska about two months prior to his big debut, while the new fox family has been exploring their new community since the summer. "Mellie, we have a six-year-old female, and then Joey and Apollo are two young males that are just about 10, 11 months old right now, so they'll develop well into the years for the exhibit here," explained Dallman. Dallman also explained that the city has been wanting to bring back the black bear exhibit for years. He's hopeful Mr. Reeves will offer families a unique and special experience. "I look forward, as I look around and see all the young kids that are here, that they'll come down here hopefully with their kids someday and maybe see something, which would be outstanding, or see Mr. Reeves," he said. "That'd be great. Kristin Romanowicz is from Freedom and frequently brings her son, Beckett, and daughter, Audrey, to the Menominee Park Zoo. She said Peckett was ecstatic about Mr. Reeves, and Audrey was mesmerized by the foxes. "We've come to this zoo before, but never in winter and the fox and the bears are our favorite animals so it was a neat new attraction to come down and make a special holiday trip and it's nice the animals are out cause you don't always see them." said Romanowicz. ‘Miracle on Bridge Street’ event brings the magic of Christmas to Manawa New this winter season are the hours that the zoo will remain open. Visitors will be able to say hello to the new addition to the Menominee Park Zoo family every weekday, excluding holidays, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. For more details, you can visit the zoo's official Facebook page.
