Prepare for freezing rain and snow in New York until Sunday night
Dec 15, 2024
The National Weather Service issued a report at 4:51 p.m. on Sunday for freezing rain and snow until 10 p.m. for Seneca, Cayuga and Tompkins counties."A light mixture of freezing rain, sleet, snow and valley rain is occurring across the area late this afternoon and evening. The biggest hazard will be the potential for patchy icing from freezing rain, especially over the higher elevations where temperatures are in the upper 20s. Snow and ice accumulations will be light, between a coating to 2 inches in most locations. This snow and ice could create slippery conditions on untreated roads and surfaces. Use caution if driving, or heading outside this evening," says the weather service.
