Parkview partners with Butler University and Hylant to solve healthcare cost crisis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Parkview Health has officially partnered with Butler University and Hylant in a competition with the goal of reducing healthcare costs for Hoosiers.
The Hoosier state suffers from higher rates of chronic conditions and higher mortality rates compared to surrounding states, according to a release from Parkview Health. The higher rates result in higher costs overall for Hoosiers showing the need for lower-cost preventative healthcare.
Parkview Health hopes to help those costs through an innovation competition, meant to solve rising costs for everyday healthcare.
The “Datapalooza” kickoff event has Butler student teams analyze Medicaid patient data provided by the State of Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration. The students are asked to identify key factors driving high healthcare costs, including specific health conditions and demographic influences.
Following the data collection, Parkview will host an Innovation Competition to come up with solutions, with the semi-finalist being offered the opportunity to participate in an Accelerator program, or a program that provides resources and support for early-stage startups.
“Preventive care, aligned with the social determinants of health, is crucial to reducing and avoiding expensive healthcare procedures and treatments. We’re excited to support a bold initiative that aligns with our mission to inspire well-being,” Sarah GiaQuinta, senior vice president for community health and equity with Parkview Health said. “This challenge will bring together diverse perspectives to address one of healthcare’s most pressing issues.”
In 2020, Parkview Health committed to $1 billion in rate reductions over five years. In partnering with Butler and Hylant, they hope to continue that mission in supporting cost reduction.
No exact was given for when the Innovation Competition will take place, but Parkview, Butler, and Hylant invite all interested parties to participate.
